Despite recent challenges in the world of training and EMR implementation, training still remains just as important as ever. Training is the true foundation to any implementation and new hire program. Like the foundation of a building, its success of standing is directly related to its strength.
Covid-19 has forced us all to make great changes in our day-to-day lives, providing many challenges on every level. Training projects have also been faced with adversity and challenges. Many of those projects were in mid-flight when the pandemic hit, requiring decisions to be made quickly and precisely.
While some organizations continued with a standard classroom approach while observing social distancing, many went with digital approaches to ensure safety and training delivery. Some organizations utilized an e-learning model that allowed end users to take the training at their own pace and still learn the curriculum as intended. It is important to note that some e-learnings are simple videos where users simply watch the content. Other e-learning options, that are much more successful in learning retention, provide the end user with an interactive experience.
Many organizations utilized software tools such as WebEx, to deliver the same classroom curriculum as originally intended. These tools allowed for the classroom delivery to take place in a virtual format, where users could log in to training sessions via personal computers from their home locations.
While some projects were derailed slightly and had to be postponed for a few months, many projects, such as those from our Dallas client, maintained their timelines and successfully implemented at 8 hospitals in July 2020. This specific client was in the middle of normal classroom delivery when Covid-19 hit. After our 68 trainers took a brief pause, they quickly shifted to a virtual training format and successfully completed the intended training schedule with an on-time go-live.
