This position is part of a larger project team that includes IT and operational staff that work cohesively to determine workflow changes, enterprise-wide application build requirements, troubleshooting, and resolution of problems relating to the application. The builder position is responsible for the design, configuration, testing, and validation of the assigned application/module during implementation, upgrade, and maintenance of Epic. This includes understanding that operational workflows and integrated decisions differ between clients and projects that may result in configuration variances.
Qualifications
- Minimum two (2) years of Epic build experience in the assigned application to support in-depth knowledge of the software functionality and operational use
- At least one or more Epic certifications; certification is required for the assigned application
- Knowledge of healthcare operations, business practice, and clinical practice and workflows in an ambulatory or acute care environments are preferred
- Strong organization and analytic abilities to troubleshoot problems
- Good communication and interpersonal skills; must be able to work as part of a team
- Able to demonstrate an understanding of project management tools, methodologies and techniques
- Ability to multitask is essential, as is the ability to function in stressful and emergent situations
- Detail-oriented with effective time management skills
Role Objectives
- Utilize an in-depth knowledge of assigned application(s) and its relationship to other applications to actively participate in installation and ongoing maintenance of Epic EHR
- Participate in project plan development and monitoring project milestones
- Lead and participate in design and validation sessions and ensure appropriate documentation follow-up and issue escalation occurs; introduce best practice options for future-state workflows and processes
- Perform in-depth analysis of workflows, data collection, report details, and other technical issues associated with Epic software
- Work with department representatives to analyze needs and translate these into system design; provide application expertise to facilitate discussions and decisions
- Configure, modify Epic master files, preference lists, reports, etc. related to the assigned application, as well as integrated
- Generate and update detailed documentation on system configurations and technical components, as well as decisions, requirements, specifications, change control, policy and procedures, end user documentation, issues and risks
- Test and verify software releases, upgrades and any changes prior to the promotion of code to the production environment
- Participate in the development, execution, and sign-off of system testing
- Troubleshoot, research, and solve technically challenging problems, including integration points identified by team members and end users to ensure the system meets the organization’s business needs
- Escalate issues and risks to project leadership
- Collaborate with the training team(s) on the content for training, keeping them informed of new release feature/functionality, changes/revisions that impact the operation
- Participate in the planning and execution of application Go-live and post-live activities
- Follow established guidelines for system change control
- Provide Level 2 support for application related issues
- Identify potential system enhancement needs and perform data collection
- Analyze new functionality in releases to determine how and if it should be used
- Coordinate ongoing software updates and changes
- Review and test new software releases
- Requires the ability to travel 80% on an overnight basis post COVID-19
- Provide on-call support
